Many Thanks

Dear Parents,
THANK YOU for making the time to join myself and the other staff on Saturday. I thoroughly enjoyed speaking with each of you and have taken many new ideas from you. Here are some changes I'd like to make for Term Two.
  • Post Vocabulary on the Blog so that you can assist your child in your first language (if necessary) and also English to reiterate the meaning of the new vocabulary.
  • Post education websites to the blog so that you can encourage your child to learn with a different medium (i.e. Using technology).
  • Send home more Creative Writing as homework. This will encourage students to use their thesaurus to increase their vocabulary.
  • As mentioned in the interview, it would be very benificial for your child to obtain a children's thesaurus to use at home and even to bring to school. My goal is to improve their writing as well as increase their vocabulary.
  • Lastly, I did not mention this to many of you, but students are keeping a Grade Two Portfolio. Each month they choose 8 of their favourite pieces of work to keep inside their portfolio. This will go home in June.

If you have any other suggestions, I am always available to talk via email, phone or in person.

Thanks for everything, I feel so blessed to have such supportive families to work with.

Best,

Ms Meyer

Leaf Collecting!

Dear Parents and Students,
We'd like to make some animal friends with various kinds, colours and shapes of leaves on FRIDAY during our FALL FESTIVAL!!! If you have time, please collect some leaves from around your neighbourhood, that are not too large. We will create various animals on one page.
Thanks :)

Chilean Rescue!

Viva Chile!!
Today grade 2 students helped count down the hours and minutes to which all 33 miners were rescued in Chile. I like to involve students in (appropriate) World Issues, so that they can keep the larger world at hand in mind.
We also wrote letters to the Chilean Miners. Here are some of our letters:

Ola! Dear: Chilean Miners,
I am Sena from Ankara, Turkey. I would like to ask you three questions. Did you skin burn in the underground rocky cave? Is the temperature more hotter than the sweaty desert? Did you get any cover? If I would be without my mom, then I would cry. You are so lucky. Good luck!
From: Sena

Dear: Chilean Miner,
I am Hana Kim from Bangladesh, Korea. Didn't you got hurt? I think you are okay. Did you work hard. I am eight years old. How old are you? I was scared. Nice, good job.
From: Hana Kim

Are you guys from Copiapo? (Yo soy de Santiago, Chile. Ustedes son do copiapo?) How did you get up? (Como subiste?) Are you guys okay? (Y ustedes estan bien?) Yes or No? (Si o No?) Good Luck! (Buena Surete)

Dear; Chilean Miner,
I am Monica from Bellevue, America. I would like to ask three questions;
Does your skin burn in the ground? Do you get hungry very often? Is the temperature as hot as the sun? If I were trapped underground for 75 days I would have felt I should have gotten another job.
Yours, Monica
P.S. Make sure you marry your fiancee!

Dear: Chilean Miner,
My name is Jihan and I am from Turkey. Did you dig minerals? Where are you going now? How did you go in the cave? When I would live in a cave I would watch T.V. like you.
From: Jihan

Dear: Chilean Miner,
I am Pranu who are you? Did you find any diamonds? Did some people die? How old are you? I am seven. Did you find any minerals? I would feel so happy to come back. Try to find more diamonds and minerals. Good luck.
From: Pranu

Dear: Chilean Miner,
My name is Lora. I am 6 years old. How did you bring games and tv? Was it hot or cold? Did you find anything underground? Did you miss land so much? Were there any animals? Did you have fun at the ground playing games and watching tv? Did you find any minerals? Did you get sick? Why didn't you wear any clothes? Didn't you get hurt? If I were going with you to the journey to underground rescue, I would be so emotional. I would be so hostile, but when we get saved, I felt relaxed. When you got out did you take a bath, change clothes or eat some more food? Or go to sleep?
